Hi I’m Mia,

Mya spelled Mia.

My mom decided the name, and my dad decided to nuance me with the spelling. A nuance that lead me to have redundant conversations with acquaintances for the rest of my life, explaining why it isn’t: Mya, Maya, or Maia. But the truth is, there is no good reason. And if you are thinking its not too bad, imagine also having a first name as a last name. You can begin to imagine that a simple “your name?” asked by a delivery man, teacher, or secretary can turn a 2 word reply into a 2 minute riddle. I am now whoever they want me to be. Not really, I just stopped correcting them.

Well, that gets the name part out of the way.

I am from Canada. Well I was actually born in the States, and raised in Canada. Ah, and I moved to Italy when I was fifteen. Then off to Spain five years later. But no, I couldn’t consider myself American, Italian, Spanish or even, well, a true Canadian. Let’s just say, a diluted Canadian and leave it at that.

So, I am Mia, from Canada.

I am also a copywriter.
